Since March 2020 global central banks have engaged in a coordinated loosening of monetary conditions which coupled with fiscal stimulus has significantly impacted the valuations of ALL assets whilst increasing speculative risk appetite.
This “ liquidity regime” is ending as national policy response diverge driven by domestic economic and inflation data, geo-political and political pressure. The impact on the valuations of assets will be profound. 2022 will be a very different investment climate compared to 2020/21.
The themes that will drive markets in Q1 2022, look at the potential leaders and laggards in monetary/fiscal policy tightening and highlight key implications as financial markets enter a period of higher return volatility.
Speaker Biographies
Kenneth Tremain Jr.
Ken has 35+ years of financial services industry experience covering trading and trading management, investment management and startup ventures. He has managed significant businesses on both the buy and sell side, and has extensive experience managing multi-asset cash and derivative portfolios. In a 21 year career on Wall Street, Ken managed Citigroup’s North American Rate Trading and Sales business, sitting on the Global FI Management Committee and the general ISDA and BMA boards. After acting as Principal for CrossRate Technologies, he ran a successful macro strategy at Marto Capital. Ken is a graduate of the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia with a BS in Finance.
Christopher Eagle
Chris brings 25+ years of experience in trading, sales and management roles across asset classes and is part of the IVI portfolio management team focusing on thematic creation and portfolio construction. He spent his early career at Morgan Stanley in roles across FICC with a focus on derivative distribution and structuring. He was appointed Head of Derivative Distribution at UniCredit, and later joined Jefferies as Managing Director, Foreign Exchange. Since 2015 he has run Aquila Markets, a Financial Markets consultancy and educational group. Chris holds a degree in Biochemistry from the University of St Andrews.
Lawrence Newhook (moderator)
Lawrence Newhook is a veteran investment professional with a 20+ year track record investing globally across all asset classes. He has built successful investment and hedge fund portfolios for the pension, family office, and high net worth investor communities, with a particular focus on identifying and extracting sources of alpha from both public and private markets. Lawrence serves as the President & Chief Investment Officer of Alpha Innovations, where he oversees all facets of the business, including product innovation, alpha identification, and risk management.
Prior to launching Alpha Innovations, Lawrence was a member of the management team at Point72 Asset Management LP for twelve years, where he managed the team responsible for the firm’s external investments in hedge funds, private equity, venture capital and real estate. His team was also responsible for evaluating all discretionary and quantitative PMs, analysts and traders to ensure the standard of only hiring best in class investment talent. Earlier in his career, Mr. Newhook was the Portfolio Manager of Alternative Strategies for OMERS, one of the largest Canadian pension plans, where he designed, developed, and managed its alternative investments program. Prior to this, he traded international OTC and listed derivatives and cash markets, and helped manage global derivatives and FX portfolios.
Mr. Newhook is a CFA Charterholder and has a Masters in Financial Economics from the University of London and a Bachelor of Commerce (Management Economics) degree from the University of Guelph.
